Lash Extensions vs. False Lashes: Which Is Better?
You know those ladies that are just naturally blessed with long, luscious lashes? Or better yet, the guys? It’s totally not fair. They get that “I woke up like this” look, while the rest of us have to put on coats of mascara to even get close. Well, if you are like me and not naturally blessed with long lashes, there are some solutions.
Team False Lashes or Team Lash Extensions?
If you haven’t heard of either of these, then keep reading. Your mind is going to be blown. Seriously, I’m not kidding.
If you are confused between the two, let me clarify the difference. False lashes are the strip lashes you can buy at the drugstore, or any beauty supply store. Lash extensions are when individual lashes are adhered to your lashes using a special glue. Each individual lash is placed on top of your own lashes.
Both of these solutions will give you the look of long natural looking lashes, so they are great options if you don’t want to put on mascara. I have tried both, so these are my opinions, but ultimately the choice is entirely up to you if you want to try both, either or none at all.
False lashes, being a strip lash, are adhered on top of your lashes using a lash adhesive. They are light-weight and range from very natural looking (whispies) to very full (glam style). False lashes are a one time deal, perfect for a special event or just because. You can easily wear them every day and they typically take around 5 minutes to apply (once you get proficient at it). Bonus, you can apply mascara on top if you want!
Tip: If you take care of them when removing them, you can reuse them 2-3 times.
Lash extensions are amazing since you get that “ I woke up like this look”, but they are a lot of upkeep. Fills are typically every 2-3 weeks and they can be expensive, ranging $150+ for full set & $75+ for fills. Also, for a full set, it usually takes anywhere from 60-90 minutes to apply and ranges from 20-45 minutes for fills depending on how glam you get them.
Lash extensions are a great option if you are super busy (which is why I got them originally), or you are going on a trip, as they will last you 2-3 weeks. I would say if you are getting married, lash extensions are a great option, as you can get them done a day or two before and they should carry you through your honeymoon.
If done properly, lash extensions won’t harm your lashes, but you have to be careful about how you sleep (not on your stomach) and when removing eye makeup, as any irritation will make the extensions fall off faster.
Tip: If you decide to get them done and the tech wants to cut your real lashes to make the lash extensions longer or says you have to, run. Seriously, run. Your real lashes should not be cut!
So which is better?
Honestly, they are both great for different reasons. If you are going on a trip or have a super busy schedule and don’t want to worry about makeup, lash extensions are a great option, especially with a very natural makeup look. However, false lashes are easier to apply and you can choose when you want to have a very glam look or a very natural look. You don’t really get that option with lash extensions once applied until you go in for a fill.
I won’t lie either, it’s amazing to be able to take off of the false lashes and rub your eyes. You can’t do that with lash extensions, but that’s just my preference.
